1. Take Too Long (B. Beken)

Climbing up, climbing up, climbing up, climbing up the vine
I bet you already see
Going out, going out, going out, going out my mind
All the things I could be

And you will be there outside looking in
I’ll be in all the places you’ve not been

I won’t take take take take take too long

Take a bow, take a bow, take a bow, take a bow one time
And let everybody see
Throw around, throw around, throw around, throw around a smile
It’s all that you’ll get for free

And you will be there outside looking in
I’ll be in all the places you’ve not been

I won’t take take take take take too long

3. As They Go (B. Beken)

When he is alone he thinks he could be happy
When she is alone she thinks that she could die
He tries to reassure her, he tries to reassure her every time
That when they get alone he thinks they could be happy

Oh, God only knows if he can break this down, down on his own
Oh, he’s watching the days as they go

You want to go far, you’ve got to go together
You want to go fast, you’ve go to go alone
She tries to reassure him, she tries to reassure him every time
You want to go far, you’ve got to go together

Brian Beken: fiddle, bass, percussion, vocals
Dennis Ludiker: mandolin
Noah Jeffries: guitar, vocals

4. John Paul (B. Beken, D. Smith)

I first met John Paul in the spring of ‘91, he was a good man
He held out his arms as the people in their cars put money in his hand
I often wondered why, or I guess how that he got by, he was a staple
He’d knock on my door, then he’d lay down in the floor by the table

What’s the cause you army boy, and can you call your shot
The pay ain’t worth the gun you hold, or the cost of doing what you’re told
So tie a rope to pull you home and show them all you’ve got
The old men sent you off to die, no plan when you’re back alive

It wouldn’t take long at all, he’d be feeling pretty tall and want to fight me
I’d grab him by his hair then we’d roll down the stairs, it’d get exciting
And then one day I came to his stop light just the same as I’d done for years
And damned if old John Paul wasn’t standing there at all, just an empty beer

What’s the cause you army boy, and can you call your shot
The pay ain’t worth the gun you hold, or the cost of doing what you’re told
So tie a rope to pull you home and show them all you’ve got
The old men sent you off to die, no plan when you’re back alive

Brian Beken: guitar, percussion, vocals
Dennis Ludiker: fiddle
Noah Jeffries: bass
Grace Park: vocals

5. Hall of Stone (B. Beken, D. Ludiker, R. Walker)

A little further down a hall of stone
There’s a fire that could keep us warm
Down a windy road is a broken code
In a language I don’t even know

Something leads me here, every thousand years
Like a veil that disappears
I could give up on all the things I’ve known
But I’d just have to start over alone

The day will come when words will break cement
Blinding rays of light will not relent
Everything will end as it began
In a language we won’t understand

Something leads me here, every thousand years
Like a veil that disappears
I could give up on all the things I’ve known
But I’d just have to start over alone

Brian Beken: fiddle, bass, percussion, vocals
Dennis Ludiker: bouzouki, fiddle
Noah Jeffries: bass

7. The Water (B. Beken)

She was born in January not far from the mountains and the trees
A cold wind blew when she arrived and it turned the water table dry
Are you used to it, when the water’s getting cold
Where do you stand, when the water’s getting cold

She rose up from the state of her own, when you’d turn around she’d be gone
Took the river north of Mexico, through the eddy where the water’s still and cold
Are you used to it, when the water’s getting cold

There’s a mystery in the eddy where the water’s getting cold

I am alive in spite of the I don’t knows

She was born in January not far from the mountains and the trees
Took the river north of Mexico through the eddy where the water’s still and cold
Are you used to it, when the water’s getting cold
Where do you stand, when the water’s getting cold
There’s a mystery in the eddy where the water’s getting cold

8. Bad Girl (D. Banhart)

I’ve been a bad girl, I ain’t playing fair
I want you to be free, but I don’t want to share
I don’t want to let you go but it’s about time I do
I can’t blame you anymore and I still love you

Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah

I know it ain’t easy being left on your own
Why did you leave me, well I don’t really know
Why wait another day when a day won’t change a thing
Please don’t ever let me say that again

Mama I ain’t waiting, but I’m still holding on

11. Bones (B. Beken)

Of all the places for you to walk into
You had to choose this one, didn’t you
And I’m supposed to carry on like I know you, but I don’t want to, I don’t want to

The places that you’ve visited on your pin map
Like portraits hung in hallways always longing back
But I don’t want to, I don’t want to
I don’t want to, I don’t want to

Cause it shakes my bones, and it shakes my bones

The faces in the mirrors you keep looking at
Don’t bother to look them in the eyes, they won’t look back
Like I don’t want to, I don’t want to
I don’t want to, I don’t want to

Cause it shakes my bones, and it shakes my bones
